SOCIAL Secretary
SPATIKHA SITARAM
Hello!
My name is Spatikha Sitaram and I would like to run for the position of social secretary for SSSMUK Committee 17/18! I am a first yearstudent, pursuing Medicine MBChB at the University of Manchester.
Back in high school, I had perceived going overseas to study as an experience that was simultaneously exciting and daunting. However, the full impact of this experience did not sink in till I reached Manchester. Throughout my short time here in the UK, accepting Manchester as my new home has not been an easy journey. However, with the support and love I’ve received from fellow Singaporeans here at Manchester, both those I got to know during the SSMUK camp as well as those I had the pleasure of meeting once I arrived here, I’ve learnt to love both the university and the city. I feel that the society has given me a home away from home and thus I would like to give back to the society by being social secretary and make Manchester as much of a home to the newcomers who join us here.
Being part of the executive committee in Student Council in Secondary School and SJI International’s Prom Committee, I am familiar with planning events and I hope my skills could be put to good use in planning future events with the committee as well.
As a Singaporean of Indian descent, I am a firm believer in our nation’s commitment to a multi-racial, multi-cultural environment. As such, I think that my presence in the committee could bring much needed diversity that will truly reflect the social fabric of Singapore. I would be excited to bring a diverse range of events that would appeal to all the Singaporeans in Manchester.
If elected, I promise to maintain a high level of commitment to the enrichment of the Singaporeans in Manchester, both in terms of social events or any extra-curricular support they may need throughout their time here at the university. I also strongly believe in maintaining a balanced lifestyle and will endeavour to bring as much fun to all our hardworking friends here at UoM.
