My name is Lim Xian Da, I am a first year BA Economics student and I am writing in to put myself up for election as Treasurer for 17/18 Singapore Students’ Society of Manchester committee.

Given my time as a lieutenant of the Singapore Armed Forces, I’ve personally overseen battalion wide cohesion events monthly where I led a team of men which saw through the completion of each event. This include taking care of all logistical issues and most importantly the careful planning and allocation of funds from the yearly budget. One such event is when we managed to squeeze out a budget and push through in having a Battalion Family Day to the Singapore Zoo. A total of 145 participants turned up and my team was able to conduct the event smoothly, from liaising with the zoo as well as able to get a caterer for the lunch with no hiccups. With a proven track record of handling money alongside being a man of integrity, I strongly believe I will serve the Society as treasurer in good stead.

Furthermore, being an economic and finance student, the topic of handling money is something that is close to heart and a forte that I have developed over the years. Be it through the various school events and financial jobs I have taken on.

Being made Treasurer, I believed that with my strong interpersonal skills and ability to make connections will benefit the society as I aspire to get as much funding possible to organize more activities for fellow Singaporeans in Manchester.

Additionally, if the position of Sports Secretary is vacant, I volunteer to hold this position as well. Being a sportsman myself, I believe sports can play an integral part in the building of relationships between people. As such if appointed as Sports Sec, I will strive to conduct and organize various sporting events for Singaporeans to enjoy during their time here in Manchester.
